Have any outdoor plans this summer? ☀️
It’s time to plan an awesome and fun-filled summer vacation at one of the best hotels in Virginia! Why? Because summer in the Shenandoah Valley is an outdoor enthusiasts dream. Here are just a few of the seasonal, fun things to do in Virginia if you’re looking to soak up some sun this season.
1. Superb Hiking and Mountain Climbing
Shenandoah Valley hiking is one of our favorite ways to enjoy beautiful Virginia outdoors because you don’t have to be an avid outdoorsman to participate. If you are new to the hiking world, you can explore the valley at your own pace and take in the beauty of nature without feeling overwhelmed or overly exerted. A must do area is Sky Meadows State Park, as it’s very close to the inn and has spectacular views. For those who are of a more professional hiking status, the valley also offers more rigorous trails with impeccable views and even waterfalls, such as White Oak Canyon Trail and Old Rag Mountain Loop Trail. If you want to take your trekking journey a step further, there are also multiple areas for rock climbing! We do advise that you have experience or set up a guided tour with a professional climbing company to be as safe as possible. Stop by our front desk for more information.
2. White Water Rafting and Tubing
Looking for a good way to cool down, but want an activity that involves more than laying by the pool? Then white water rafting or tubing down the Shenandoah River is the perfect experience for you! Harpers Ferry Rafting company offers numerous family-friendly excursions, great for splashing around in the water and relishing in the beauty of the valley. Book a tour at our front desk if you’re feeling exploratory!
3. Horseback Riding
For a more leisurely summer activity that still allows the opportunity to view the gorgeous scenery, horseback riding is a great option. From trail riding and valley tours, you won’t be disappointed with your experience. Royal Horseshoe Farm, Rocking S Ranch, Marriot Ranch, and Double H. Stables all provide unique experiences the whole family will love. This is also a great time to connect with nature and your loved one if you’re planning a summer romantic getaway in VA.
4. Canoeing and Kayaking
Beat the heat with a relaxing day on the river canoeing or kayaking. Front Royal Canoe Co. offers equipment for scenic self-guided tours on the south fork of the Shenandoah River. If you aren’t a fan of kayaks or canoes or simply want to try something new, they also have stand-up paddle boards, rafts, and tubes. They can accommodate families, groups, couples and individuals.
Last, but certainly not least, you can opt for a relaxing fishing trip on the Shenandoah River. Just 13 minutes from our Northern Virginia bed and breakfast, guests can hop over to the valley where they can explore and choose between 70 different mountain streams. All provide a diverse population of brook trout. You certainly won’t have trouble catching fish or relaxing in an area as beautiful as this.
