Virginia Activities - Beautiful mountain views Any time of year is a good time to get away from the city and shake out those cobwebs.  The Shenandoah Valley is teeming with fun and vigorous Virginia activities for the outdoor enthusiast. Bring your hiking boots, water shoes, bathing suits and jeans and we can get you started on your outdoor adventure with L’Auberge Provencale as your home base. After a  day in the outdoors, you can return to your room at the inn and try one of our steam showers or massages to ease you into your evening. The following activities can be done by couples and small groups.

Outdoors Day One

Start out at L'Auberge Provencale your first day and travel to the Skyline Drive in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains or Sky Meadows State Park. There are hikes on the drive and the Park for the casual as well as experienced hikers. Bring your backpack and we can pack you a lunch to get you through miles of hiking. Or travel to Old Rag for a truly challenging hike. Return to the inn and reward yourself with a relaxing and romantic dinner at our restaurant La Table Provencale, accompanied by wines from our Wine Spectator award winning wine list.

Outdoors Day Two

Awake early, refreshed and ready to go. A stroll through the Virginia State Arboretum at dawn is the perfect way to get those juices flowing. Watch for deer, chipmunks, squirrels and other wildlife. A 45-minute walk around the farm and you will be ready for a hardy multi-course breakfast served in our cheerful sun room.

After breakfast, bring your gear for a day of adventure in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, just 25 minutes north of the Inn. There at the River Riders, choose from white water rafting, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, canoeing and even canopy zip tours. Have a quick lunch in Harpers Ferry, a stop at the ice cream store and in the afternoon enjoy a self guided biking tour along the C&O canal. This day is truly a remarkable experience in nature by the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers with Class 1-111 rivers. There are many biking and water fun tours to choose from at River Riders and they have bikes there to rent.

Outdoors Day Three

Your third day at L'Auberge Provencale is the day to enjoy what Virginia is all about. After breakfast, it is time enjoy horseback riding. Let us prepare you a picnic lunch and head out to a couples or small group horseback riding adventure in Virginia's hunt country. We recommend Rocking S Ranch with Cowboy Bill and Highlander Horses for great rides through beautiful countryside with experienced riders and instructors who will fit the ride to your skill level and expertise.  A novice?  No worries, these are the best.

In the afternoon, we have a unique adventure at Summit Point Karts. Test your driving skills on this approved Kart track with or without instructions. It is possible on this half mile, 17 turn track to go up to 120 miles per hour. Arrive and drive is available on weekends Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They rent equipment or you can bring your own, but they must be approved by the track. At the end of they day you have driven both types of "horses", so return to the inn and have an in-room repast with a bottle of wine, put your feet up, and congratulate yourself on the accomplishment of your physical pursuits.
