Dawn with a Civil War Cannon

Dawn with a Civil War Cannon

Well, we have all had enough of the snow and ice and I know we are all saying enough is enough.  Today, the weather is balmy and it is time to get out of the city and visit the beautiful Shenandoah Valley at L’Auberge Provencale.  For those history buffs of the Civil War there is a unique opportunity to visit the Kernstown Battlefield in Middletown.

You can join the Kernstown Battlefield Association as it commemorates the 152nd Anniversary of the First Battle of Kernstown.

Gary Eclebarger, historian and author of the book “We Are in for It, The First Battle of Kernstown” will be giving a tour of the battlefield on March 15, 2014 starting at 9 am.  The tour will last approximately two and a half hours.  Comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended.  The tour is free.  Donations are always appreciated.  For the Civil War buffs this is an excellent opportunity to visit this historic property just minutes from L’Auberge Provencale.  We will be happy to pack you a picnic to take with you as you explore the battlefield and the surrounding area.  Just let us know 24 hours in advance.

The Visitor Center will be open and Tours of the Pritchard House will be available.  In case of inclement weather, the tour will start at 9 am on March 22nd.  Additional information can be found at www.kernstownbattle.org or on the Kernstown Battlefield Association Face Book page. You may also call KBA President Gary Crawford at (540) 869-2896.

We have just a couple a rooms still available, so book now for the opportunity to combine luxury with history.

March Romantic Getaway

Cozy fire in Our Suite Romantique

I know, March has come in like a lion, and everyone is hunkered down.  But did you know this is a great time to take advantage of a romantic getaway at L’Auberge Provencale in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley?  You can beat crowds and enjoy an intimate, romantic getaway here at the inn, in sunny Virginia with our Snuggle and Cuddle March Romantic Getaway.

Buy one night in one of our romantic suites and get one free.  For a two night stay that is a 50% savings! All that is required is that you book your stay Sunday-Thursday in one of the inn suites and make a dinner reservation in our restaurant La Table Provencale.  We do not accept any third party gift cards with this special, but we do honor our gift certificates.  Our romantic suites each have a fireplace, king size beds, cushy chairs for cuddling, and either aromatherapy steam showers for two or Jacuzzi.

This special is good from February 24th to March 27th, 2014.

March Romantic Getaway

In the event of snow, Bernadette our Bernese Mountain Dog may be here to greet you.

While you are here, enjoy the quiet time at our world renowned local vineyards, see the first buds of spring at the Virginia State Arboretum at Blandy Farm, take some time for shopping in Old Towne Winchester and Middleburg, or maybe even take a midnight Civil War hike on the full moon at the Kernstown Battlefield.  Return to the inn for some hot mulled cider, snacks and pastries in our sitting room in the afternoon.  Or just bring a good book, enjoy some wine by the fire, and renew your romance here at L’Auberge Provencale.

Christmas in Provence Wine Dinner with Chateau Grand Veneur

Tuesday, November 19th, 2013

Christmas in Virginia

All the halls will be decked and the Christmas spirit will be here at the inn

Exciting news!  For our annual  holiday wine dinner, Christmas in Provence, at La Table Provencale we are pleased to announce that  Helene Jaume,  from Chateau Grand Veneur, a world class Chateauneuf-du Pape producer, will be at L’Auberge Provencale to share her wines, estate history, and philosophy and a few laughs with our guests.  What a chance to meet a world class wine producing family.

Coming direct from France for this event, Helene’s fabulous wines will be paired with the traditional flavors of Provence and the Rhone Region of France.  Of course, our team of chefs will put a modern twist to each dish, but they will definitely be rooted in the regional flavors, to bring out the best of the terroir nuances of these fantastic wines.

The dinner will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2013 from 1:00-5:00.  What better way to start the holiday season with friends and family!  Our Shenandoah Valley inn will be filled with holiday cheer and decorations for this great afternoon.

To join the festivities, please make reservations early to ensure attendance.

Point to Point Race and Virginia Wine Month

Saturday, February 26th, 2011

You know that spring is almost here in the Shenandoah Valley when the Blue Ridge Point to Point race is just around the corner. No pun intended says Winey!  This is a great race that will be held at Woodley Farm, in the beautiful Virginia countryside, just a few miles up the road from L’Auberge Provencale, bed and breakfast. Winey and Cheesey will be there with a tail gate picnic to watch the beautiful horses and the beautiful people here in Clarke County, Va.  If you want to attend the race we still have a few rooms available and we will throw in the picnic for two!  The races are on March 12, 2011, so bring some cash for the side bet (only kidding!)  Winey and Cheesey think our bed and breakfast is the perfect place to unwind after the races.  Enjoy a sumptuous meal in our romantic dining room and a fine bottle of wine to mellow out even the most active DC foodies after all that fresh country air!

We will also be celebrating Virginia Wine Week and are offering “Love by the Glass”, for all those wine lover’s out there. L’Auberge Provencale’s romantic restaurant will be featuring our long time favorite Virginia vineyards and some new ones we discovered at the Governor’s Wine Awards last evening for the week of March 18-27th! Wine lovers now have another good reason to come out and enjoy L’Auberge Provencale.  The Shenandoah Valley and other areas of Virginia are producing some really good wines these days.  Your going to love them! Winey and Cheesey are loving them and you will too.  While you are visiting you can enjoy the culture, local history and of course, local food and local wine.

Spring also has us looking at all those goodies to come out of the garden and forests of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Fresh fiddleheads, morels, French breakfast radishes, mache…yumm, yumm.  You don’t want to miss this, so we hope to see you soon at the L’Auberge Provencale, country inn and restaurant.  Don’t forget we are only just a short drive from Washington, D.C.  And we know you are ready after this winter to get out of the city and enjoy country comfort!

Wine Maker’s Dinner Menu

Caleb Foster

Winemaker of 19 vintages in Washington, New Zealand and South Africa, Caleb designs Buty wines with Nina as personal statements. International winemaking has taught him to stay true to Washington wine’s character of origin.

The Philosphy

Buty’s philosophy of winemaking reflects the old religious worldview of human growth from the body to mind to soul to spirit, called”the great nest of being.”  The all inclusive nest of being grows over time as we reach for the spiritual levels of life.  So, too, Buty Wines evolve including and expanding their quality at each stage of their development.  The wine’s development is a cumulative and artistic process.  Every stage of growth is equally important for a fine wine, starting with a great site developed into a vineyard, from fruit into wine, from cellared bottles to our enjoyment at a shared meal.  A great wine calls for complete attention as they expand the qualites present at every stage.
