South African Wine Dinner at La Table Provencale

Wednesday, February 26th, 2014

La Table Provencale restaurant at L’Auberge Provencale, had another great wine dinner this past Sunday, February 23rd, in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley in the heart of Virginia wine country, featuring the wines of South Africa.  On hand for the afternoon was Nicola  from Mullineux Vineyards, who  graciously showed  and explained the pairings of the wines of Keermont and Kloof Street, from Swartland.  Also, we enjoyed Riebeek Vineyard wines with Morne representing his great wines, also from Swartland and the western Cape.

Chef Joseph pulled out the stops with his South African menu, featuring ostrich, wild boar, scallop ceviche and a fabulous apricot souflee and Koek Sisters  paired with Mullineux Vineyard’s, very rare, Straw Wine.

Joining our group were two new friends from Australia, Ben from Thorne Clarke Vineyards and Craig from Jip Jip Rocks.  We made plans for an Australian themed dinner this same time next year, so you might want to mark your calendars now for this great Virginia wine country event at our restaurant La Table Provencale.

Christmas in Provence Wine Dinner with Chateau Grand Veneur

Tuesday, November 19th, 2013

Christmas in Virginia

All the halls will be decked and the Christmas spirit will be here at the inn

Exciting news!  For our annual  holiday wine dinner, Christmas in Provence, at La Table Provencale we are pleased to announce that  Helene Jaume,  from Chateau Grand Veneur, a world class Chateauneuf-du Pape producer, will be at L’Auberge Provencale to share her wines, estate history, and philosophy and a few laughs with our guests.  What a chance to meet a world class wine producing family.

Coming direct from France for this event, Helene’s fabulous wines will be paired with the traditional flavors of Provence and the Rhone Region of France.  Of course, our team of chefs will put a modern twist to each dish, but they will definitely be rooted in the regional flavors, to bring out the best of the terroir nuances of these fantastic wines.

The dinner will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2013 from 1:00-5:00.  What better way to start the holiday season with friends and family!  Our Shenandoah Valley inn will be filled with holiday cheer and decorations for this great afternoon.

To join the festivities, please make reservations early to ensure attendance.

The solitude of winter celebrated with Christmas in Provence

Virginia Wine Country: The 7th Largest Wine Growing Region

Friday, December 7th, 2012

It may be winter, but the award winning Virginia wineries in the Shenandoah Valley are keeping some limited hours. It is a great time to visit the Virginia Wine Country…no crowds, cozy tasting rooms, cheese and wine and the solitude of the winter vines. We recommend some of our favorites Vineyards that are open: Delaplane Manor, Linden Vineyard, Barrel Oak, Fox Meadow, Rappahannock Cellars, Boxwood, and Veramar. We can still pack you a great picnic to enjoy while you enjoy a nice respite from the crowds of the crush.

Check out a little history of the Virginia Wine story. There are 210 wineries in Virginia and so little time. Come and cozy up to a fire in one of our cozy rooms or suites and enjoy a repast dinner delivered to your room at our French Country Inn & Restaurant, a Northern Virginia Bed and Breakfast, at the end of your day, complete with a bottle of local Virginia wine.

Pinot Camp & Wine Dinner in Dec. at our VA Wine Country Inn

Wednesday, October 17th, 2012
Pinot Camp and Wine Dinner at our Virginia Wine Country Inn

Pinot Noir Grapes Ready for Harvest

I know you are all used to hearing about the “Pinot Camp” in Willamette Valley and know it is impossible for the general public to attend; so we are bringing “Pinot Camp” and Wine Dinner to you here at L’Auberge Provencale, our Virginia Wine Country Inn. This dinner will be Pinot 101, with stories about the wine makers, the tradition of Oregon Pinots, the structure and elegance of a grape that has found it’s home here in America. You can take notes or just come and enjoy!

On Sunday, December 9th, Tom the “Pinot Guy” from Roanoke Valley Wines will be introducing you to some of the best Pinot wines from their extensive portfolio. Our dinner starts around 12:45pm for a meet and greet and sign in with a glass of Pinot Noir bubbly, followed by a seven course dinner featuring local and seasonal offerings to marry with the wines.

Our last couple dinners have been sold out, so book early to make sure you have your reservations. This is a great way to start the holidays with just a day away from the stress of shopping and decorating. Reward yourself and come and enjoy the camaraderie with our friendly group of foodies.

As an added bonus we are throwing in a maverick during one of the courses. If you can guess what it is and where it is from you have a chance to win a L’Auberge Provencale goody basket of our house made jams, jellies, oils, vinegar, and coffees we have been producing this year.

Call early for reservations: 1-540-837-1375.  If you want to stay the night at our Northern Virginia Bed and Breakfast we are offering a 15% discount on any room available. Just mention “Camping” when making your room reservation.

The Italians are Coming to our Virginia Wine Country Inn!

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

We are not sure they will be driving their Ferraris but on Sunday, August 5, 2012, we are going to Italy for an afternoon gathering of fine food, fine wine, and fine conversation at our Virginia Wine Country Inn.

Italian Wine Dinners at our Virginia Wine Country Inn These Ferraris were lined up in Monaco just roaring to get to L’Auberge Provencale, our French Country Inn and Restaurant for our Al Fresco dinner. Chef Benedict Zappone and his team are creating Italian family recipes paired with fine wines from Italy presented by Jason Bise of the Country Vintner.

As one patron told us yesterday, “I have been to wine dinners a lot, but yours is so different. The food is terrific, the best, and the wines are paired perfectly.”

Our recent wine dinners this summer have been quite a hit, and you may want to reserve early for this event as it is booking up fast. (Winey and Cheesey think as fast as a Ferrari.) It is a great way to spend time with family and friends gathering in the Shenandoah Valley for a leisurely afternoon. Life at it’s best. Come join us…there is no passport required.

To whet your appetite, here is the menu for the afternoon in Italy..

Sunday was a glorious day in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia; sunny, fair, and fun here at L’Auberge Provencale. We re-created a day of sunny Provence at our Northern Virginia Bed and Breakfast Inn. Provencale fabrics, garden flowers, guests in country casual attire and food from the South of France. Procuring local ingredients and using ingredients from the gardens at our romantic Virginia inn, we created a French feast with Olivier from Vineyard Brands and Jason of the Country Vintner on hand to progress our wines with the cuisine of the sun.

Wine Dinners in Virginia

Setting up for a Provencale Afternoon

Everyone was transported to another place, Provence, but just an hour from DC. We took a tour of the Rhone for our wine dinner afternoon, starting in the southerly part of the Southern Rhone and ending in Beaume de Venise, with stops along the way to Gigondas, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Condrieu, Cote Rotie and Lirac, to name a few. Our menu featured local lamb with wild mustard sauce, braised Fields of Athenry pork belly with Lavender Glaze and compressed peaches, our own orchard cherry Clafoutis with Garden Rose Petal Ice Cream and many more side dishes with local procured ingredients, that were passed around family style. It truly was a dinner for family and friends to share great wine, great conversation, and great food.

A Typical Four Hour French Country Lunch

A magical time was had by all as we were transported to another place and time. And as crazy as this may sound, even before we finished the first course we were planning our next dinner from around the world. On July 8th we will be visiting Spain! Come join us at our romantic Virginia bed and breakfast for tapas, Rojas, and Paella. We will hopefully be able to procure a suckling pig as well and have him roasting on an open pit. Seating will be limited so plan ahead and make a reservation! The wine dinners are an afternoon affair served from 1:00-5:00. Special overnight rates are available to guests of the wine dinner. It is the least we can do.

Winey and Cheesy will be on hand to greet you. No passport is required.

“Taste of Provence” Wine Experience

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

It was a beautiful day on June 26th – hot, humid and a chance of rain, typical of early summer days in the Shenandoah Valley. Thirty lucky guests joined us indoors at L’Auberge Provencale for a cool, leisurely lunch in our Sunny Peach Dining Room. The ambiance was reminiscent of all that is Southern France and the essence that is Provence.

Virginia Wine Country Inn | Bed and Breakfast in Virginia

The “Taste of Provence” wasn’t merely just another wine dinner – it was a Wine Experience.  Guests dined around round tables, adorned in crisp cream linens and fresh garden flowers picked that afternoon.  Rosemary bread and fresh baked French Baguettes were drenched in our house-infused Garlic and Herb Olive Oil. Our guests embarked on the traditions and customs hidden behind Provençale Cuisine; great conversation, food and wine!

The wines and food, paired perfectly with much thought and collaboration by L’Auberge Provençale’s Executive Chef, Jacob Jasinski, Madame Celeste Borel and Wine Consultant, Jason Bise of Country Vintner Distributors. Every taste was a delight to all the senses. In between the flights of fare, Jason Bise took time to educate the party on the riches behind each region we were visiting in our minds and palates. Highlights of the meal started with the Caramelized Onion Mushroom Tartlet next to a bed of Oysters in Sorrel, Caviar and Citrus. The second and third flights showed off Chef Jasinski’s talent for Duck Galantine, Petite Bouillabaisse, A Duet of Gazpacho, and not to overdo it, House Cured Duck Ham & Foie Gras Royale. Just when guests thought it couldn’t be topped, Chef Jasinski sent out Local Lamb Rack & Loin and Slow Cooked Culotte, which melted like butter in everyone’s mouth. The fifth and final flight ended the afternoon on a sweet note; showing off Citrus Crepes Suzette and Apricot Tart Tatin with cool serving of Nougat Ice Cream, a specialty of our Pastry Chef, Duane Copeland.

The company, food and wine told the perfect story of an afternoon dining delight in sun splashed hills of the Southern Region of Provence. We thank each of our guests who made the journey to Provence with us that Sunday afternoon in June. We look forward to our subsequent Wine Dinner next month.

Stay Tuned…

Our next Wine Dinner will be in August, 2011
